AI Services for Teaching and Learning

* CUHK provides a range of AI services to support teaching, learning and pedagogical innovation. Available services include AI chatbots for teachers and students, Microsoft 365 Copilot, AI APIs and special support arrangements for approved teaching and learning initiatives. The services described on this page are primarily intended to help teachers and students explore the appropriate use of generative AI in teaching, learning and innovative pedagogy at CUHK. Other proposed uses should be clearly described in the application and will be considered individually.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat provides AI-assisted capabilities for tasks such as brainstorming, drafting, summarisation and information exploration. Available features may vary according to the user’s assigned Microsoft 365 licence.

Google Gemini Enterprise Education

Google Gemini Enterprise Education brings Google AI capabilities together to support teaching, learning, research and academic work. Relevant capabilities include course planning and content creation, knowledge sharing, literature synthesis and idea generation, as well as the use of NotebookLM to explore and work with course materials. The availability of individual features and services may depend on the access arrangements provided by CUHK.

CUHK API Portal for Teaching and Learning

The CUHK API Portal for Teaching and Learning provides AI APIs primarily for programming classes, teaching experiments, learning activities and approved proof-of-concept development.

The Portal includes primarily Microsoft Azure Foundry Models APIs, providing access to an expanded range of supported AI models and capabilities. Depending on the selected API and subscription, these may include:

  • Text and conversational models
  • Image-generation models
  • Text-embedding models

Available models, operations, quotas and rate limits may vary among APIs and subscriptions. Users should follow the documentation for their selected API, including the specified endpoint, model name and request format.

  • For introductory guidance and testing examples, refer to the CUHK API Portal Quick Start repository on GitHub for the details.
  • Teachers, TAs, FYP student groups and other project teams may contact elearning@cuhk.edu.hk or Judy Lo (ITSC) to request additional quota or dedicated access for a specific course or project. Please include the use case, expected number of users, required models, anticipated usage and project period.

Legacy Services: transition access only

  • The CUHK AI Chatbot for Teaching Support and CUHK AI Chatbot for Learning Support are legacy services scheduled for retirement on 31 January 2027. Access is provided only to support the transition to the replacement services.

Other Services

  • Teachers planning new AI-supported teaching and learning activities may contact the support team at elearning@cuhk.edu.hk or Judy Lo (ITSC) to discuss their proposed use cases, requirements, and appropriate support arrangements.
  • Support may include access to current AI services or special arrangements involving platforms such as Microsoft Foundry, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Google Gemini Enterprise Education, Amazon Bedrock and Kiro. The availability and suitability of individual platforms will be considered according to the proposed use case, technical requirements, information security considerations and support.
